Late arrivals will not be extended, transferred or refunded for any reason. Please be respectful of other parties who have scheduled tour times. Tour dates are released on a rolling basis; we do not book dates beyond 30 days in advance. Please check back thirty days before your desired tour date if you wish to book ahead. Poe House follows the City of Baltimore for guidance on closures or delays on days of inclement weather or emergencies.

We are committed to protecting, preserving and celebrating the rich history of the city, the house, and the legacy of one of our most beloved denizens. Changing exhibits and tours are scheduled from time to time. The house isn’t very furnished, but much of what does still exist, by way of furnishings both interior and exterior, are original to the time that Poe stayed there (1830s). Guests can see a few exhibits, including a telescope and a writing desk (a portable one!) which were thought to be used by Poe. When the home was active, he lived there with two cousins, his aunt, and grandmother; you can see some of their kitchenware still on display.
Home to Baltimore's most famous adopted son from 1832 to 1835, it was here that the macabre poet and writer first found fame after winning a $50 short-story contest. After moving around, Poe returned in 1849 to Baltimore, where he died under mysterious circumstances. His grave can be found in nearby Westminster Cemetery. The home is unfurnished and there are few artifacts, but the small house feels fittingly eerie.

Poe House is OPEN for tours every Thursday thru Sunday from 11AM to 4PM (Wednesdays in May thru October.) Reservations are REQUIRED. Walk-ups are only permitted when space allows, so please book ahead. Due to the size of the historic site, reservations are required to visit Poe House during regular museum hours/days.
Following the kitchen, there are three floors of very small bedrooms. In addition to tours for educators and students, we welcome other group leaders (clubs, senior groups, private groups) to book virtual tours. Use this form ONLY if you wish to book a private tour for a group or class.

Please be considerate of other scheduled visitors the day of your tour. Due to limited space and the importance of protecting this precious historic site, guests will be required to wait outside the house for their tours to begin. No one is permitted to enter Poe House without a ticket and there is no space within to wait.
